In July 2016, the Courts Design team were delighted to visit Farnborough International Airshow.

This premier event in the aviation calendar takes place every two years and showcases the best of the global aerospace industry.

The trade part of the show ran over 5 days, with a diverse array of over 15,000 exhibitors from over 39 countries across the world. The packed event programme included seminars on all aspects of the aviation industry – from tilt-rotar innovation to airborne self-protection systems. A particular highlight was UK astronaut Tim Peake’s appearance at the show on Futures Day, when groups of young people aged 11 – 21 are given a chance to attend the show and see the career opportunities available in the dynamic sectors of Aerospace and Defence.

Daily flying displays showcased the most advanced commercial and military aircraft, with over 99 different kinds of aircraft at the show. During the public weekend, popular favourites such as the Red Arrows made an appearance as well as Apache helicopters and even gyrocopters.

The team were particularly impressed by the virtual reality aspects of the event, where technology was used to simulate real life experiences. Virtual reality has been spoken about for a long time but is increasingly becoming the digital forefront of technology. At the show, visitors could be placed at the command of a simulated A350 airliner or an A400M military transport. They could even experience a virtual walk on the surface of Mars.

Head of Digital comments: “Virtual reality continues to evolve and excite us with its potential. It can provide a truly immersed experience for users with real 360° walk-throughs to truly bring products and services to life. We expect it will become an increasingly important aspect of stand design and the trade show experience for visitors.”

The team were also there to view the stand they built for client Bahco. Bahco supply premium quality hand tools to the global market and were introducing their new ‘tools at height’ range at the show.
